Does engineered wood flooring scratch easily?

Engineered wood flooring is durable, but like all wood floors, it can scratch under certain conditions. The top hardwood veneer can be susceptible to scratches from heavy furniture, pet claws, or sharp objects.

However, its resistance depends on the thickness and hardness of the wear layer. Thicker wear layers and finishes like UV-cured lacquer or oil can offer more protection. You can minimise scratches by using felt pads under furniture, adding rugs in high-traffic areas, and trimming pet nails regularly. For deep scratches, engineered wood can often be lightly sanded and refinished depending on the wear layer thickness.
